Custom software development company run by senior engineers

We build web and mobile applications, APIs and integrations with your ERP, CRM or TMS. Every engineer has 10+ years in production – no juniors, no anonymous subcontractors. A nearshore EU team in Slovakia, working CET business hours, with weekly demos, full repository access and code you own.

Overview

Custom software vs off-the-shelf, SaaS or no-code

As a custom software development company, Megu designs and builds applications around your processes, data and existing systems, instead of making your organisation adapt to a generic product. We are based in Košice, Slovakia, with 15+ years of production experience and 100+ production projects, and we work remotely with clients in Germany, Austria, Czechia, Slovakia and across the EU.

Off-the-shelf software is the sensible choice when your process is standard: accounting, payroll or a typical online shop. SaaS and no-code tools are good for validating an idea or running a simple internal workflow. Custom software pays off when the process is specific or gives you a competitive edge, when several systems must work together, when per-seat licence fees grow faster than your business, or when data has to stay under your control in the EU. Often the best answer is a mix: keep commodity functions in ready-made tools and build only what sets you apart.

You can work with us in two ways: as a project with an agreed scope and milestones, or as a long-term senior team embedded with your own people. With a project you focus on the outcome and follow progress at weekly demos; with an embedded team you set the priorities directly. Either way you get daily stand-ups, an open backlog and full repository access.

What we build

Custom software development services: web, mobile, APIs

Frontend, backend, mobile, data and infrastructure from one senior team. No juggling several vendors, and no responsibility lost somewhere down a subcontracting chain.

01

Custom web application development

Internal systems, admin panels, dashboards and SaaS products that run in the browser with nothing to install. We build them in TypeScript with React and Next.js or Vue and Nuxt, focusing on performance, accessibility and straightforward UX, and design them to cope with growth in both users and data.

  • React / Next.js
  • Vue / Nuxt
  • TypeScript
02

Mobile app development for iOS and Android

Apps for customers, sales teams, drivers and field technicians. With React Native or Flutter, iOS and Android share one codebase, which shortens delivery and simplifies maintenance. We handle offline mode, push notifications, camera and GPS features, and publishing to the App Store and Google Play.

  • React Native
  • Flutter
  • iOS & Android
03

Backend and API development

Server-side logic, REST APIs, authentication, payments and background jobs. We choose Node.js with NestJS, Python, Go, Java or .NET to fit the problem, typically with PostgreSQL for data. APIs come with documentation, versioning and tests, so other applications and your partners can connect to them safely.

  • Node.js / NestJS
  • Python / Go
  • PostgreSQL
04

API integration with ERP, CRM, TMS and accounting

We connect new software to the systems you already run, so nobody retypes data by hand. Orders, invoices, stock levels, jobs and shipment statuses flow between systems automatically, with error handling and a log of every transfer. If a system has no API, we use file imports and exports or a dedicated integration layer.

  • ERP & CRM
  • Accounting
  • TMS
05

Internal tools and customer portals

Internal systems replace spreadsheets and email chains: job tracking, approvals, capacity planning and reporting. Customer and partner portals give your clients self-service access to orders, invoices and job status without phone calls. Role-based permissions and audit trails are part of the design, not an afterthought.

  • Internal tools
  • B2B portals
  • Reporting
06

Security, CI/CD and cloud operations

We deliver software together with what keeps it running: CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, monitoring and backups on AWS, GCP, Azure or your own servers. Security starts in the architecture, not the week before launch. When you need a deeper look, our cloud and DevOps or penetration testing services take it from there.

Use cases

Typical situations where custom software pays off

Illustrative scenarios from industries where spreadsheets and off-the-shelf tools often hit their limits. Every project starts with an analysis of your specific situation, not a template.

Transport & logistics

Custom software for logistics: dispatch, driver app, portal

A carrier manages orders through spreadsheets, emails and phone calls, and customers keep asking where their shipment is. A typical solution combines a dispatch module, a driver app with statuses and photos of CMR documents, a customer portal with notifications and a link to invoicing. We know the domain from building our own transport management platform.

Manufacturing

Job and production tracking instead of shared spreadsheets

Jobs, materials and hours are tracked in spreadsheets emailed between departments, and nobody is sure which version is current. A web application brings jobs, capacity and production status into one place, shop-floor staff log work on tablets and the data syncs with your ERP. Management sees the current state without assembling reports by hand.

Wholesale & e-commerce

B2B ordering portal connected to your ERP

Trade customers order by email or phone and sales staff retype everything into the system. A B2B portal shows each customer their own prices, stock availability, order history and invoices. Orders go straight into the ERP through an API with no retyping, and a mobile version can support your field sales team.

Finance & accounting

Automated transfer of invoices and payments between systems

Invoices, orders and payments are moved by hand between the online shop, the bank and the accounting software, costing hours and introducing errors. An integration layer moves the data automatically, matches payments to invoices, checks for duplicates and routes exceptions to a person for approval. If data must be read from PDF documents, we add AI document processing.

Field service

Mobile app for service technicians

Technicians need jobs, equipment history and service reports on site, often without signal. A React Native or Flutter app works offline, captures photos, the customer's signature and materials used, and syncs everything with the central system once back online. The office has the report straight away, not at the end of the week.

Sales

Bespoke CRM for a non-standard sales process

Off-the-shelf CRM struggles when you have custom price lists, multi-step discount approvals or long B2B sales cycles with technical quotes. A bespoke CRM follows your exact pipeline stages, connects to invoicing, email and ERP, and removes per-seat licence fees as the team grows.

How we work

From first call to release: how we deliver

Five steps with clear outputs. Daily stand-ups, weekly demos, an open backlog and full repository access apply throughout the engagement, not just at kick-off.

  1. 01 Reply within 24 hours

    Discovery call and scoping

A free, no-strings call to understand the problem, your processes and the systems you use today. NDA on request. Together we then split the scope into must-haves for the first release and features that can follow later.

  2. 02

    Architecture and plan

We design the architecture, data model, integrations and infrastructure, including security and deployment. You get a phased plan and a transparent estimate that shows exactly what drives cost and timeline.

  3. 03 Demo every week

    Iterative build

We build in short iterations with daily stand-ups. Every week you see working software, not slides. You have the open backlog and full repository access, so priorities can change as you learn.

  4. 04

    QA and release

Automated tests, code review and CI/CD pipelines run from the first week, not just before handover. Releases to production are automated and repeatable, with monitoring in place from the first day of operation.

  5. 05 Long-term

    Operation and further development

Launch is not the finish line: monitoring, bug fixes and further iterations based on user feedback. If you need ongoing capacity, we continue as a long-term senior team embedded with your people.

Why Megu

A nearshore custom software development company in the EU

  1. Senior-only: 10+ years per engineer

Every engineer has 10+ years of production experience; no juniors, no anonymous subcontractors. Experienced people spot architecture and integration risks earlier, write fewer defects and don't learn at your expense. A senior hour costs more, but total cost and delivery risk are usually lower.

  2. Full transparency, and you own the code

Daily stand-ups, weekly demos of working software, an open backlog and full repository access. No black box: you always know what is done and what comes next. Code ownership stays with you, so you are never locked into a single vendor.

  3. Nearshore for DACH and EU clients

A Slovak company under EU jurisdiction, working remotely with clients in Germany, Austria, Czechia and across the EU. We share the CET time zone with the DACH region, communicate in English, German or Slovak, handle personal data in a GDPR-compliant way and design systems so data can stay in the EU.

  4. Proven on our own products

15+ years and 100+ production projects. We build our own transport management platform, and we turned an ad-supported B2C website into a subscription SaaS product with a full mobile app, on an architecture that handled 10x growth in active users.

FAQ

Custom software development FAQ: cost, timelines and process

What is custom software development?

Custom software development is the design, build and ongoing maintenance of software made for one organisation's specific processes, users and systems, rather than bought as a ready-made product. It is also known as bespoke software development. Typical results are web applications, mobile apps, APIs, internal tools and integrations between existing systems such as ERP, CRM or TMS. With Megu, the code belongs to you and you decide how the software evolves.

How much does custom software development cost?

The cost depends mainly on scope, the number of integrations, target platforms (web, iOS, Android) and security requirements, so a reliable figure is only possible once the brief is understood. We prepare a concrete estimate after the free first call and scoping, split into must-haves and features that can wait. When comparing offers, look at total cost rather than hourly rates alone: a senior team typically needs fewer hours, less rework and fewer post-launch fixes. To validate an idea on a smaller budget first, start with an MVP in 2–6 weeks.

How long does custom software development take?

Custom software is usually delivered in phases: a focused first release can go live within weeks, while larger systems with several integrations and user roles take several months. The first phase typically covers your most important process, and further modules follow in iterations. The biggest delays usually come from unclear scope, integrations with legacy systems and waiting for decisions, so we tackle those during scoping. You get a phased schedule with the estimate, and weekly demos mean any slippage shows up early, not at the end.

Custom software vs off-the-shelf: which is better for my business?

Off-the-shelf is better when your process is standard and a ready-made product covers it without workarounds; custom software is better when the process is specific, several systems must be connected, or licences and limitations cost you too much. Off-the-shelf and SaaS tools have a lower entry cost and a fast start, but your team adapts to the tool and often pays per user. Custom software needs a higher upfront investment, yet it fits your processes exactly and the code is yours. In practice, a combination of both connected through APIs often works best.

What is the custom software development process?

Our process has five steps: a free discovery call and scoping, architecture and planning, iterative build, QA and release, and ongoing operation. During scoping we separate must-haves from later features and design the architecture, including integrations, security and infrastructure. During the build you get daily stand-ups, a weekly demo of working software, an open backlog and full repository access. After launch we continue with monitoring, bug fixes and further iterations.

Nearshore vs offshore software development: what's the difference?

Nearshore means working with a team in a nearby country and a similar time zone, while offshore means a distant country, often with a large time difference. For clients in Germany, Austria and the rest of Central Europe, a nearshore partner in Slovakia works the same CET business hours, operates under EU jurisdiction and GDPR, and communicates in English or German. Offshore rates can look lower, but time-zone gaps, handovers and rework often raise total cost and delivery risk. With Megu you also get a senior-only team rather than a mixed-seniority bench.

Can custom software integrate with our existing ERP, CRM or TMS?

Yes, integration with ERP, CRM, TMS and accounting systems is a standard part of custom software projects. If a system offers an API, we connect to it directly; if not, we use file imports and exports, database access or an integration layer that translates data between systems. During scoping we check the interface documentation, limits and security, so the integration doesn't become a surprise halfway through. Every transfer is logged and errors are reported, so a failed transfer doesn't go unnoticed.
