Team augmentation · senior-only, 10+ years each

Team augmentation services: senior developers embedded in your team

When your team is short on experience, we add dedicated senior developers who work in your tools, follow your rhythm and stay for the long term. Every engineer has 10+ years in production. No juniors, no rotating staff, no anonymous subcontractors.

Overview

What team augmentation services are, and what they are not

Our team augmentation services add senior engineers from Megu to your existing development team. They work on your product, in your repository and to your priorities, joining stand-ups and sprint planning like any other team member. You decide what gets built. We make sure the person building it is experienced, accountable and stays with you for the long term.

Team augmentation, staff augmentation, body leasing and dedicated teams are often used interchangeably, but they are different models. Classic staff augmentation or body leasing fills a seat with whoever is available, so seniority and continuity vary from one placement to the next. A dedicated development team owns a whole product area. Project outsourcing hands a defined scope to a vendor with a delivery date, leaving you less day-to-day control.

Megu sits deliberately in between. You keep control of the backlog and product decisions, while we stay accountable for who joins, the quality of their work and continuity. Every engineer is a named senior from our own team, never an anonymous subcontractor. If you would rather hand over a complete project with a fixed scope, our custom software development service is the better fit, and it runs on the same senior team.

What we deliver

Staff augmentation services, from one senior to a dedicated development team

We shape the engagement around what your team is missing: one experienced developer, a small dedicated team or a specific senior role. Every engineer is a named senior with 10+ years in production, never an anonymous subcontractor.

01

Senior developer for your existing team

One or more experienced developers join your sprints and pick up work from your backlog. A good fit when your team and processes work well but you lack capacity or depth in a specific area, such as backend, frontend or mobile development.

  • Frontend
  • Backend
  • Mobile
02

Dedicated development team

A small team of seniors works long-term on one area of your product, such as a new module, a mobile app or integrations. You set priorities and scope; the team joins your rituals or runs its own, and shows progress at weekly demos.

  • Dedicated team
  • Long-term
03

Tech lead or software architect

A senior who writes code and also helps shape architecture, code review, standards and technical decisions. Useful when the team is growing faster than its processes, or when an in-house lead has left and the technical direction needs stabilising.

  • Architecture
  • Code review
04

Cloud and DevOps senior in your team

An infrastructure engineer who builds and maintains CI/CD, containers, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code and monitoring on AWS, GCP or Azure together with your team, so your developers can focus on the product instead of firefighting deployments.

  • AWS / GCP / Azure
  • Kubernetes
  • Terraform
05

Modernisation alongside your in-house team

While your team handles day-to-day operations and new requests, Megu seniors gradually refactor a legacy system, split out modules or move the application to the cloud. No development freeze and no risky rewrite of everything at once.

06

Knowledge that stays in your team

We document decisions, write readable, tested code and review code together with your people. Code ownership stays with you and IP terms are set out in the contract, so know-how is never locked in with a vendor, not even if you decide to end the engagement one day.

Typical scenarios

When software development team augmentation fits

Typical situations in which companies add senior engineers to their team instead of hiring or outsourcing a whole project. These are recurring patterns, not stories about specific clients.

Logistics and transport

Extending dispatch or a TMS without waiting to hire

A transport company needs to connect its system to telematics, a customer portal or orders arriving by email, but the in-house team is busy keeping operations running. Megu engineers know the domain from our own transport management platform: real-time dispatch, shipments, vehicles, drivers and warehouses. They grasp requirements faster and skip the learning curve on the basics.

E-commerce

Seasonal peak and new integrations at the same time

Before peak season the shop needs to get faster, add payment and shipping integrations and prepare its infrastructure for higher load. Hiring for a few months makes little sense, and juniors would slow the team down. A senior developer and a DevOps engineer join the existing team when they are needed most, and the engagement then continues at whatever scale makes sense.

SaaS and product companies

Long-term product work that outgrows the team

The product is gaining users, and requests pile up for a mobile app, subscriptions and better performance. We have walked this path ourselves, turning an ad-supported website into a subscription SaaS with a mobile app that handled 10x growth in active users. Our engineers bring that experience to architecture and code inside your team.

Manufacturing

Modernising an ageing system without stopping production

A manufacturer runs an in-house planning or records system that is reaching its limits, and the one person who understands it is overloaded. A Megu senior first maps the system, through a code audit if needed, then refactors it step by step with the internal team and prepares the ERP integration. Changes ship in small increments so production keeps running.

Finance and accounting

A key senior is leaving and their knowledge must stay

An experienced developer who alone understands the calculations, bank integrations or reporting is about to leave. Replacing them through hiring can take months. A Megu senior takes over the area, documents critical parts and spreads the knowledge across several people so the team no longer depends on one person, with particular care around access to sensitive data.

Software firms and agencies

Senior capacity for a project you would otherwise turn down

A software company or agency wins a project but lacks seniors in, say, Go, Rust or Kubernetes. Megu also works as a partner for other companies: our engineers join your team under your lead, with an NDA on request, and without you having to make permanent hires for a single engagement.

How we work

From first call to long-term team member in five steps

A clear path from the first conversation to a lasting collaboration. We reply within 24 hours, and before anyone starts you know exactly who will work on your product.

  1. 01 Reply within 24 h

    Free first call

We talk about your product, your team and what is missing. The call is free and no-strings, and we sign an NDA on request. Afterwards you will know whether and how we can help.

  2. 02

    Needs, stack and team rhythm

We clarify technologies, role, allocation, language and ways of working: how you plan sprints, where your backlog lives, which tools you use and who will assign work to our engineers.

  3. 03

    Matching named engineers

We propose seniors from our team whose experience fits your stack and domain. You get names and profiles rather than anonymous CVs, and you can talk to them before they start.

  4. 04

    Onboarding into your team

Engineers get access to your repository, project tracker, communication channels and environments. They join stand-ups from day one, get to know the codebase and architecture, and soon take on regular backlog items.

  5. 05 Long-term

    Check-ins and continuity

We regularly review with you how the collaboration is working, whether the scope still fits and what should change. The same people stay with you long-term and after releases also help with monitoring, bug fixes and further iterations.

Why Megu

Why hire senior developers through Megu

  1. Senior-only, no exceptions

Every engineer who joins your team has 10+ years of production experience. There are no juniors for you to train at your own expense, no rotating staff and no work passed on to anonymous subcontractors. You always know who is working on your code.

  2. Engineers who build and run their own products

Megu has 15+ years and 100+ production projects behind it and builds its own products, including a transport management platform. Our seniors are used to owning a product for the long run, so they think about operations, maintenance and cost, not just the ticket in the current sprint.

  3. Transparency and code ownership

Daily stand-ups, weekly demos, an open backlog and full repository access. Code ownership stays with you, we sign an NDA on request, and we work under EU jurisdiction in a GDPR-compliant way.

  4. English, German or Slovak, same time zone as DACH

Based in Košice, Slovakia, we work online with companies in Slovakia, Czechia, Austria, Germany and across the EU. We share the CET time zone with the DACH region and communicate in your team's language, with no translation layer between engineering and product.

FAQ

Team augmentation FAQ: costs, comparisons and day-to-day work

What is team augmentation?

Team augmentation is an engagement model in which an external partner adds engineers to your existing team, and they work to your priorities, in your tools and alongside your people. Unlike project outsourcing, you keep control of the backlog and product decisions. At Megu, every augmented engineer is a senior with 10+ years in production who joins for the long term and is never an anonymous subcontractor.

Staff augmentation vs outsourcing: what's the difference?

With staff augmentation you add people to your team and direct their work yourself, whereas with outsourcing you hand a defined scope to a vendor who manages delivery and is accountable for the result. Augmentation gives you more control and keeps knowledge in-house; outsourcing takes less of your management time but gives you less visibility into how things are built. Megu offers both: senior team augmentation, and full project delivery through our custom software development service.

Staff augmentation vs dedicated team: which should I choose?

Choose staff augmentation when you have a working team and processes and need to fill specific gaps; choose a dedicated team when you want a self-contained unit to own a product area with less management overhead on your side. Augmented engineers slot into your existing sprints, while a dedicated team can run its own rituals and report progress to you. With Megu, both options use the same senior engineers and the same transparency: daily stand-ups, weekly demos and full repository access.

How much does staff augmentation cost, and what is a senior engineer's hourly rate in Europe?

Staff augmentation is usually billed per hour or per person-day, and senior engineer rates in Europe vary widely by country, specialisation and engagement model, so we quote a specific rate after the first call rather than publishing a rate card. The main drivers are specialisation (for example Kubernetes or security), allocation, the number of engineers and whether someone also acts as tech lead. Look at total cost of ownership too: a senior typically needs less guidance, causes less rework and does not tie up your team with training, so the overall cost can be lower than with a junior on a cheaper hourly rate.

Staff augmentation vs traditional hiring: which is faster and cheaper?

Staff augmentation is usually faster, while hiring tends to be cheaper for roles you will need full-time for many years. Recruiting a senior developer in Germany or Austria often takes months once you add sourcing, interviews and notice periods, and the true cost of employment includes recruiter fees, employer contributions, equipment and management time on top of salary. An augmentation rate typically bundles those overheads. Many companies combine both: seniors from Megu cover the gap while you hire, then help new colleagues get up to speed.

How quickly can augmented developers start?

Augmented developers can start once the role is agreed and a suitable senior is matched, and we confirm a concrete start date right after matching. The exact date depends on the availability of seniors with the right stack and on how quickly you can set up access to your repository and tools. Because every engineer has 10+ years in production, they typically find their way around an unfamiliar codebase quickly and start taking on backlog items early.

What are the pros and cons of staff augmentation?

The main advantages are fast access to experienced engineers without a recruitment cycle, flexible capacity and know-how gathered across many projects. The drawbacks can be a higher hourly rate than an employee's salary equivalent, extra coordination and the risk that knowledge leaves with the vendor. We reduce that last risk by working directly in your repository, documenting decisions and keeping code ownership with you. When choosing a partner, check that they don't rotate people or pass work on to subcontractors.

How does team augmentation work day to day?

Day to day, an augmented engineer works like any other member of your team: joining daily stand-ups and sprint planning, picking tasks from your backlog and committing to your repository. Their code goes through the same review as your team's, and progress is visible at weekly demos. The tooling is yours, whether Jira, GitHub, GitLab or Slack, and communication runs in English, German or Slovak within overlapping CET working hours.
